The Language Blog on Inuits and Snow
Rainer Brockerhoff recently pointed me at the Language Log blog. One nice article I just found there is on The Snow Words Myth. In short, some people claimed that the Inuit had more words for snow than any other language, which is a very odd thing to say, especially as the Eskimo languages don't really have words the way English, French or German have them.
They also debunk the myth of English having more words than other languages and point out that this would be impossible to judge as positive or negative anyway. Lots of interesting language stuff on that site.
