QuickTime 7.2 update problems

If you're suddenly experiencing problems with some of your applications (in particular Carbon- or Java-based applications), it may be due to a bug in the initial version of the recently-released QuickTime 7.2 update. Luckily, the solution is simple: Just go to Apple's QuickTime 7.2 download page and download the upgrade (which has been replaced with a fixed version by Apple), and install it again.

The error messages you may get if you have the problem that caused this problem include:

• failure to start Carbon applications like AppleWorks, with mention of <CarbonLib> <CFMPriv_CarbonSound> < >
• The error

  Cannot launch Java application
  
  Uncaught exception in main method:
  java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: quicktime/internal/jdirect/Linker
  

  when trying to launch certain programs that use Java in some way (e.g. EyeHome).
