Tom Pittman on TinyBasic
Doctor Dobbs' Journal has a short piece by Tom Pittman on TinyBasic, and on interpreter and compiler design and how it works on/affects different CPUs. A really interesting piece, even if it's a little terse in places and ends abruptly in a code listing, especially since it makes a statement going against folk wisdom that states that interpreters can actually be faster than native code on today's CPUs.
Apart from Tiny Basic, Tom is also the author of CompileIt!, the HyperTalk compiler from Heizer software, and a few other things.
