Spatial vs. navigational file management

Just found this article comparing the spatial and "navigational" metaphors of file management via OSNews:

He has some good points, though I personally don't think as highly of the OS X Finder as he does. I wouldn't say it's a hybrid. More a chimaera, the two approaches merged together and getting in each other's way. Of course John Siracusa's articles also agree that the navigational approach has its place and incorporate it into his "grand unified model", if you will, so apart from encouraging people to actually back their theories up with research, there's nothing new (and even that can be found in every book on Human-Computer Interaction design).

Still, he raises good points. Definitely worth reading.
